Hunger Madra. A type of madra compatible with all others, capable of draining and absorbing power. Origin traced to Subject One in the labyrinth beneath Sacred Valley.
Overview
Hunger madra is a type of
Early Soulsmith records from the Fisher clan had no name for it. The bindings found in dreadbeasts throughout the Blackflame Empire contained traces of this unknown power, but its origin was a mystery for generations. [SK Ch.7, Ch.12]
Origin
All hunger madra traces to a single source:
The deeper truth: hunger madra is not natural. Hunger aura — the vital aura from which hunger madra derives — is generated by the presence of Monarchs on Cradle. Their existence presses against the Way, corrupting the natural order and producing aura that warps spirits, Remnants, beasts, and humans. Before the research team arrived at the labyrinth, hunger aura drifted everywhere as unfocused corruption. The researchers built seals to concentrate all hunger aura into a controlled space, then fused hunger bindings into living creatures.
Properties
Hunger madra’s defining property is universal compatibility. It does not conflict with other madra types — it consumes them. A hunger binding can drain fire madra, sword madra, dream madra, or any other aspect without the incompatibility reactions that normally occur when disparate madra types interact. [SK Ch.7]
This compatibility makes hunger madra simultaneously invaluable and dangerous. A practitioner wielding hunger techniques can absorb power from any opponent regardless of their Path. But hunger madra also carries its own corruption: prolonged exposure warps the spirit, body, and mind. Dreadbeasts — sacred beasts corrupted by hunger bindings — lose their rational nature and become driven by endless appetite. [SK Ch.7, Ch.12]
Hunger Bindings
Hunger bindings are constructs that channel hunger madra. They are found in dreadbeasts, in the labyrinth’s ancient machinery, and in weapons crafted from Dreadgod remains. The Ancestor’s Spear, an heirloom of the Jai clan, contained a hunger binding that could drain madra from opponents on contact. [SK Ch.12]
The most powerful hunger bindings are the Dreadgod core bindings: four constructs placed beneath
