Bond and Growth
A Blood Shadow attaches to a host’s spirit, becoming a secondary presence within them. It feeds constantly, siphoning madra to sustain itself and grow. Left unchecked, the Shadow overwhelms the host’s will and consumes them entirely. The host feels the Shadow as a living weight in their spirit — an alien hunger pressing against their own madra channels. [SS Ch.12]
The bond can be managed in three ways: suppression (fighting the Shadow constantly to keep it dormant), tolerance (allowing it limited feeding while maintaining control), or cultivation (actively developing the Shadow as a partner). Each approach carries different risks and rewards. [SS Ch.12, SK Ch.16]

During the Uncrowned King Tournament finals, Ruby fought independently alongside Yerin, the two coordinating attacks as separate fighters sharing a single origin. The integration of sword and blood madra produced techniques neither could have developed alone. [WS Ch.21, Ch.25]
