The Assault
The coalition’s plan was straightforward: concentrate overwhelming Monarch-level power against a single Dreadgod and destroy it permanently. Twelve Monarchs — a concentration of power that had not been assembled before or since — struck the Wandering Titan with everything they had. [UC Ch.14]
The Dreadgods’ response was immediate and coordinated. The Bleeding Phoenix, the Silent King, and the Weeping Dragon rose simultaneously, drawn by the assault on their counterpart. The twelve Monarchs found themselves fighting not one Dreadgod but all four. The Dreadgods fed on each other’s activity, growing stronger as the battle continued. [UC Ch.14]
Consequences
Only two Monarchs survived. The Dread War’s memory governed every political calculation involving Dreadgods from that point forward. No Monarch faction has since attempted a direct assault on a Dreadgod. Instead, the established response became management: containment when a Dreadgod wakes, evacuation of its path, and patient waiting for it to sleep again. [UC Ch.14]
