Emriss Silentborn. Monarch. A Remnant born of a men’hla tree. Creator of the Dreamway. Queen of the Everwood continent. Path of Ten Thousand Dreams.
Stage: Monarch Path: Path of Ten Thousand Dreams (Dream) Title: Queen of Everwood The Remnant Monarch. Born as a men’hla tree, a species famous for Soulsmithing utility whose leaves each produce a separate Remnant. She took human form at Underlord, developed the ability to accurately share memories (leading to the invention of dream tablets), and at Herald crafted the Dreamway: an interconnected library of dream tablets containing endlessly changing fictional worlds. Three rival Monarchs assassinated her when she began building a global portal network. She reformed from the Remnants of her scattered leaves, rebuilt her identity from memories she had left around the world, and resumed her work through subtler methods. Her rivals consider her generous and harmless. They do not realize how powerful cooperation can be.

Not passive. The centuries of quiet cooperation were preparation. She remembers everything perfectly except the fragmented period before her original death. Her purpose has never changed: spread knowledge, spread life and light, connect the world. Previous Monarchs killed her for it, because free knowledge would expose the connection between Monarchs and Dreadgods. Since her rebirth, subtler methods. Always watching for opportunities. When that opportunity arrives, she grows inside the Silent Servants’ floating island, strips concealment from Dreadgods with a word, plants shields so deep inside allies that the Silent King cannot sense them, and prunes possible futures from her enemies’ Fate-sight. The oldest Monarch on Cradle, and every year of that age is authority.

She had packed her family in a void key before being forced to leave. Ozriel’s assessment: “Your foresight is truly to be admired.”
History
Wintersteel
The records provide Emriss Silentborn’s full biography through the INFORMATION REQUESTED format. She is the Remnant Monarch, Queen of the Everwood continent, walking the Path of Ten Thousand Dreams: a Path suited to sharing thoughts widely and coordinating entire armies, not particularly built for combat but carrying undeniable power. [WS Ch.7]
Born a men’hla tree, a species famous for its Soulsmithing utility. Each leaf of a men’hla produces a separate Remnant, providing an endless source of dead matter. Sentience under these circumstances was extraordinary. At Underlord she took the form of a young woman and voraciously absorbed and shared knowledge. She sought to end the practice of competing over secret techniques, to make education freely available to all. Her development of accurate memory-sharing led directly to the creation of dream tablets. [WS Ch.7]
At Herald she crafted the Dreamway: an interconnected library of dream tablets containing endlessly changing fictional worlds, a place of rest, entertainment, and inspiration for artists across Cradle. When she began gathering support for a global portal network, three rival Monarchs killed her. “Free, unlimited knowledge is a threat to those who hoard secrets.” [WS Ch.7]
The assassination failed to account for her nature. Remnants from her leaves had spread far and wide, and they defied hunting. She eventually re-formed, though her memories were fragmented and her identity nearly broken. She rebuilt herself from the memories she had left around the world. Since her rebirth she has pursued subtler methods: spreading language rather than sacred arts, so that all inhabitants of Cradle can understand one another. Her rivals consider her generous and harmless. [WS Ch.7]
The records note one topic denied: the connection between Emriss Silentborn and the Silent King. The significance of this redaction would not become clear for some time. [WS Ch.7]
Emriss provides elixirs capable of restoring spiritual damage. Combined with Tiberian Arelius’s Pure Storm Baptism, her treatment could allow Ziel to advance again despite the devastation inflicted on his soul by the Sage of Calling Storms. The Baptism is faster, but Emriss’s healing is available where Tiberian’s is not. [WS Ch.14]
Bloodline
Emriss appears in person at Malice’s Monarch conference, the first gathering of Monarchs following the Uncrowned King Tournament. Her physical appearance in human form: dark brown bark-texture skin, glowing blue-green vine hair braided close, carrying a flower-topped diamond staff. Her manner is kindly, composed. [BL Ch.13]
She offers assessment where others posture. When the Sage of Red Faith breaks through Malice’s silencing authority with a single invisible ripple, Emriss observes: “He is very old, and craftier than he appears.” She confirms the most likely scenario for Yerin’s Herald instability: “The most likely scenario is that you spend the rest of your life as an incomplete pseudo-Herald.” The Monarchs can fix this by rewriting reality itself, though they extract cooperation from Yerin in return. [BL Ch.13]
She participates in the collective healing, her voice joining the others: “Be healed.” [BL Ch.13]
Reaper
When the Mad King arrives at Cradle, all aura jerks and trembles, all futures are smashed to pieces, and each Monarch responds according to their nature. Emriss Silentborn’s response is silence.
Her body is a blue-green tree large enough to brush the sky. Each leaf has a functioning eye, and those eyes can see into spectrums no human can perceive. Every leaf-eye trembles. She reads the silence better than anyone: the axe poised to descend. Relief comes only when she realizes the axe is not aimed at her. [RP Ch.25]
The records confirm her title was earned for two reasons: her history with the Silent King, and the fact that trees are quiet. [RP Ch.25]
Dreadgod
When all four Dreadgods awaken simultaneously, Emriss broadcasts an emergency mental message across the world. Dross receives it directly: the Silent King besieges the Everwood continent, the Bleeding Phoenix heads east through the Trackless Sea, the Wandering Titan enters the southern Ashwind jungles, and the Weeping Dragon moves toward Ninecloud City. Her communication network spans continents. [DG Ch.1]
The Silent King is winning. Malice fills the air with shadow fragments and Striker constructs, and the Dreadgod slips past every attack. Fighting the King is like facing four Monarchs at once. Malice’s only path to victory is holding until reinforcements arrive.
Dross says there are reinforcements on the way. He does not say there are only two.
Green leaves drift across the frozen vision of the Silent King’s counter-attack. Each leaf bears an open-eye shape at its center. “Here kitty kitty kitty,” Emriss Silentborn says.
She had been growing inside the Silent Servants’ floating island for an unknown period, her ancestral tree replacing the cult’s tall white tree from within. When her authority command strips the concealment, the island appears: a crumbling white tree shedding its shell to reveal a giant with bright purple bark and vivid emerald leaves. [DG Ch.17]
Emriss remembers everything perfectly except before her original death, where memories are inherited and patchwork. Her purpose has never changed. Previous Monarchs realized that free knowledge would expose the connection between Monarchs and Dreadgods. They killed her for it. Since then: subtler methods, always watching for opportunities. “We will have one chance. Make it count.” [DG Ch.17]
Her strategy against the Silent King demonstrates a level of planning that exceeds even the Dreadgod’s foresight. She plants a deep mind shield inside Lindon: leaves buried so deep in his consciousness that the Silent King cannot sense them. When the King attacks Lindon’s mind, he tears only leaves. The “flaw” in Emriss’s defenses was bait. She had pruned possible futures from the King’s Fate-sight, cutting outcomes he could no longer foresee. The King realizes this too late: possibilities were hidden, snipped away, “almost… pruned.” [DG Ch.17]
Floating leaves defend Lindon’s approach. The Dragon Descends strikes the Dreadgod’s body. “See you next time,” Emriss whispers. [DG Ch.17]
Emriss tells Lindon privately to finish the Dreadgod. Publicly, she tells Northstrider and Malice: “He will not finish the Dreadgod. He knows better.” When they command “Stop” with combined authority, Emriss counters with a single word: “No.” Her age holds off the authority of two Monarchs. [DG Ch.18]
After Lindon kills the Silent King and escapes using Dross’s newly acquired illusion technique, Northstrider turns his fury on Emriss for letting Lindon escape “with a dream technique.” She deflects: “I believe the primary technique he used was hunger.” [DG Ch.18]
She hosts the subsequent Monarch summit in a turquoise gemstone space. The alliance forms against Lindon. Emriss asks the strategic question: will the self-aware Dreadgods seek vengeance, or will they see Lindon as a replacement for their brother? [DG Ch.18]
Northstrider warns her: “You made a mistake today. I won’t forget that.” Her reply: “I don’t forget anything.” [DG Ch.18]
After the other Monarchs depart, Emriss and Larian of the Eight-Man Empire remain. Larian drops the exhausted persona, eyes sharp: “So. An opportunity.” [DG Ch.18]
Emriss provides strategic intelligence for Lindon’s heist against the Monarchs. Dross coughs out her leaves as she feeds target assessments and vulnerability data. She cooperates with Lindon’s team against the other Monarchs while maintaining her cover within the alliance. [DG Ch.20]
Waybound
A blue-green leaf with an eye at its center, one of Emriss’s personal artifacts, serves as a healing component. It is ripe with healing authority and channels Lindon’s commands easily, surviving the process without damage where other Monarch artifacts crack and fracture. [WB Ch.1]
Northstrider and Reigan Shen imprisoned Emriss together at some point during the Monarch alliance, confining her in an underwater prison within the Sunken Tower. She was prepared to wait years if necessary. [WB Ch.23]
Lindon shatters the reinforced glass. In human form she is a dark-skinned woman with gray in her hair, wrinkles at the corners of her eyes, a crown of flowers, and patches of bark-like skin. She carries her diamond-headed staff and grips Lindon’s forehead with a claw-like hand, commanding “See” to transmit a vision of Reigan Shen meeting with the Bleeding Phoenix. [WB Ch.23]
Her immediate assessments are precise. On Lindon’s choice not to Consume Northstrider before his ascension: “Pity. If you had taken it, his strength would have gone to good use.” On Sha Miara: she can handle the young Monarch directly. On Malice: “There’s no telling what that girl will do if she feels cornered.” On the Dreadgods, which she warns were always clever: “You cannot negotiate with them.” [WB Ch.23]
Lindon says he will talk to Mercy. Emriss: “Good luck.” [WB Ch.23]
Ziel advances to Herald through brutal combat with his own Remnant, a hulking jade rage-monster. He survives because his Shield Icon holds him together through the integration, but the forced advancement causes severe instability. Mercy needs to find her Joy Icon to reach Sage and then Monarch, but she does not feel joy. [WB Ch.28]
Emriss reaches into Mercy’s mind with a dream aura Ruler technique, a warm breeze that sinks through thoughts and spotlights specific memories. She surfaces Malice’s naming visions, absorbed from the Book of Eternal Night’s seventh page: the moment Malice looked into the future and saw baby Mercy as a light to complement the shadows, joy to counterbalance the family’s Malice. “You can bring joy to others even when you don’t feel it yourself.” The Joy Icon blooms as a bright violet flower in the sky. [WB Ch.28]
With the Queen’s Gift, a glistening rainbow gem the size of Emriss’s head, she leads a combined working: her authority, the borrowed Monarch power of the gem, Yerin’s willpower, and Dross. “Be whole.” The storm-tossed sea of two newborn Monarchs’ spirits suddenly stills. [WB Ch.28]
Emriss leads the final group through the ascension portal. She braces her steps with her diamond-headed staff through the unstable spatial tunnel, puts a hand on Yerin’s shoulder to warn her about the void creatures between worlds, and asks Kiuran of the Hounds about the word “Waybound”: “Does that indicate that we are bound to the Way or bound for the Way?” [WB Ch.30]
She dips her head to Ozriel with bark-patterned skin wrinkling as she smiles. “For now, I would like a place to settle my family.” She pats a gemstone hanging from her neck: a deep void key containing the family she packed before being forced to ascend. Ozriel recommends her for the Phoenix Division and observes: “Your foresight is truly to be admired.” [WB Ch.30]
Powers & Abilities
Path of Ten Thousand Dreams
A Path suited to sharing thoughts widely, coordinating entire armies at once. Not particularly built for direct combat, but carrying undeniable power. Her development of accurate memory-sharing led to the creation of dream tablets, the most widespread information technology on Cradle. [WS Ch.7]
Authority
”Show Yourselves”
Strips concealment. Green light peels away an invisible cloak, revealing the Silent Servants’ floating island. Applied to an entire army’s worth of hidden infrastructure. [DG Ch.17]
“No”
Counters the combined authority of two Monarchs (Northstrider and Malice). Her age gives her authority its weight. The oldest Monarch on Cradle said one word and held off two. [DG Ch.18]
“See”
Transmits visions through direct contact. She grips Lindon’s forehead and shows him the meeting between Reigan Shen and the Bleeding Phoenix across the world. [WB Ch.23]
Strategic Abilities
Future-Pruning
Cuts possible outcomes from an opponent’s Fate-sight, hiding futures they can no longer foresee. The Silent King, whose primary advantage was the ability to influence the future, discovered that key possibilities had been “snipped away, almost… pruned.” [DG Ch.17]
Deep Mind Shield
Leaves buried so deep inside a person’s consciousness that even a Dreadgod cannot sense them. When the Silent King attacks Lindon’s mind, it tears only leaves. The shield absorbs the mental assault entirely. The “flaw” the King exploited in Emriss’s defenses was bait. [DG Ch.17]
Communication & Healing
Worldwide Mental Broadcast
Emriss can transmit mental messages across continents. Her emergency broadcast about the simultaneous Dreadgod awakening reached Dross directly, covering the position and trajectory of all four Dreadgods. [DG Ch.1]
Dream Aura Working
A Ruler technique manifesting as a warm breeze that sinks through thoughts, surfacing specific memories. She uses this to extract Malice’s naming visions from Mercy’s consciousness, enabling Mercy’s manifestation of the Joy Icon. [WB Ch.28]
Stabilization (“Be Whole”)
A combined working using her authority, the Queen’s Gift, Yerin’s willpower, and Dross. Stabilizes two newborn Monarchs simultaneously, settling their spirits into “rightness.” [WB Ch.28]
Relationships
The Silent King
The connection between Emriss and the Silent King is noted as a denied topic in her biography. The records redact it. [WS Ch.7]
Her title “Silentborn” was earned in part for her history with the Silent King. The other reason is that trees are quiet. [RP Ch.25]
The full picture: Emriss grew inside the Silent Servants’ floating island, replacing their sacred tree from within. She orchestrated the Silent King’s defeat through future-pruning and deep mind shields, mocking the ancient Dreadgod with “Here kitty kitty kitty” and whispering “See you next time” as Lindon delivered the killing blow. She personally shielded Lindon’s mind, sacrificing her own defenses as bait. The rivalry spans ages, and Emriss outlasted it. [DG Ch.17]
Wei Shi Lindon
Emriss identifies Lindon as the opportunity she has waited centuries for: someone willing and able to kill the Dreadgods. She provides her blessing, her mind shield, and her strategic cover. Their alliance is pragmatic and immediate. [DG Ch.17]
When freed from imprisonment, she scans Lindon and notes with mild disappointment that he chose not to Consume Northstrider. She provides strategic assessments of every remaining threat, judges that Lindon can handle the Dreadgods, and offers “Good luck” when he says he will talk to Mercy about Malice. Her trust is practical, not sentimental. She calls him “Good boy.” [WB Ch.23]
Northstrider
After Emriss enables the Silent King’s death, Northstrider warns her: “You made a mistake today. I won’t forget that.” Her reply: “I don’t forget anything.” [DG Ch.18]
Northstrider and Reigan Shen cooperated to imprison Emriss in the Sunken Tower’s underwater prison. She allowed it rather than burning strength in open conflict, prepared to wait years if necessary. The imprisonment was a mutual decision between two Monarchs who agreed on very little else. [WB Ch.23]
Larian (Eight-Man Empire)
After the Monarch alliance forms against Lindon, every other Monarch departs. Emriss and Larian remain. Larian drops her exhausted persona and her eyes sharpen: “So. An opportunity.” The alliance against Lindon is not what it appears to be. [DG Ch.18]
Appearance
Human form (Bloodline): Dark brown bark-texture skin, glowing blue-green vine hair braided close, flower-topped diamond staff. Kindly manner. [BL Ch.13]
